This semester OBOC chose it’s show title earlier and used skits to develop an overlying theme to the show. The theme centered around the internet and memes- two OBOCians were sent into the Internet and came across Miss Teen South Carolina, Nyan Cat, Good Guy Greg, Rick Astley, and much more! This semester OBOC also participated in UnCommon Night during Orientation and was a part of URPerforming at Todd Theatre. Workshops continued to be a strong part of the semester; some highlights included TOOP hosting an Acting Workshop for us and David Runzo coming in and critiquing our small groups.

The Era of Workshops

Hello OBOC! One big goal we have this semester is improving our techniques and improving our show quality. We are hoping to have a ton of amazing workshops this year–it will be a great learning experience and it will help us on our way to having an amazing show! But they’re no use if you don’t show up. Be on the look out for some workshops we’re trying to plan! Our first workshop this semester is THIS MONDAY, September 26th, at 9 pm in Lattimore 201. We’re going to learn about some great vocal techniques from Sophie to help improve our singing skills! Food will be provided- who doesn’t love food?

And keep your eye out for some other great workshops we’re planning this year!

Hey you. YES, you! Do you have a suggestion for OBOC? Do you want to know why certain things are the way they are? Do you have feedback you want to share after your first semester or after 4 years of being a member? Just submit your totally anonymous questions and feedback and our Executive Board will do our best to take everything you say into consideration. We want your input to make our group even better than it already is! All of your feedback and suggestions will be addressed at our Eboard Open Forum on October 12th immediately following our last round of auditions.

What is OBOC?

OBOC is the University of Rochester’s only musical theater performing group. Each semester, we present a musical revue with numbers from a great variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. The revues are produced, directed, choreographed, accompanied with a pit orchestra, musically arranged, costumed, and performed by students.

Auditions play a role in casting several smaller numbers, but the group is open to anyone who enjoys musical theater. As we approach our 15th anniversary, our ranks has swelled to over seventy singers, dancers, and musicians!

OBOC started a series of workshops to continue improving our dancing, acting and singing outside of practice.
